A New Chapter for Main Street Bartow

After years of dedicated leadership, Main Street Bartow has entered into its next chapter as Executive Director Linda Holcomb recently passed the torch to new Executive Director Tara Davis.
For more than four decades, Main Street Bartow has served as a driving force behind the preservation and revitalization of Bartow’s historic Downtown. Established in 1984 and designated as a Florida Main Street community in 1986, the organization works to enhance, preserve and support economic development within the city’s Downtown district through historic preservation, business development, beautification efforts and community events.
Under Holcomb’s leadership, Main Street Bartow strengthened its reputation as a leader of the revival of Downtown. Through strategic partnerships, community engagement and a steadfast commitment to preserving Bartow’s historic character, she helped create new opportunities for businesses and residents alike while fostering a vibrant downtown environment.
Now, Davis has a vision of building upon that foundation. A Polk County native who spent her childhood in Lake Wales and South Lakeland before settling in Bartow, Davis brings a diverse professional background that includes work in banking, education, property management and small business ownership.
“What drew me to Main Street Bartow was its strong commitment to preserving the character and history of Downtown while creating opportunities for economic growth and community engagement,” Davis says. “Bartow has a unique sense of place, and Main Street Bartow has played a vital role in keeping Downtown vibrant and welcoming.”

Davis hopes to continue the organization’s work of supporting local businesses, encouraging community involvement and pursuing projects that enhance Downtown while protecting its historic charm.
The mission remains especially important as downtown districts continue to play a critical role in community life. “Downtown serves as the heart of Bartow—a place where history, commerce, culture and community come together,” Davis says. “By supporting local businesses and preserving our historic assets, we help ensure that future generations can continue to enjoy and benefit from a vibrant downtown.”
Looking ahead, Davis’ priorities include supporting existing businesses, attracting new investment, strengthening community partnerships and enhancing the downtown experience for both residents and visitors. She also sees significant opportunities for growth as interest in walkable, community-centered downtown districts continues to increase.
Among future goals are additional beautification and placemaking projects—a term used to describe collaborative community processes that reimagine spaces—as well as continued promotion of Downtown as a destination and the introduction of new events alongside the organization’s existing lineup.
“The Main Street program provides a framework to guide the Downtown with its future growth, development, visual character, and physical improvements,” says Trish Pfeiffer, the City Commission liaison to Main Street Bartow’s board. “These are important for business/building owners as their investment should have support and an environment that people enjoy coming to. The importance here is that our Main Street is attractive, well maintained and visually engaging for our businesses, citizens and visitors. Color and interesting features are tools that are used to attract attention, charm and love for a district.”
Main Street Bartow is funded through a mix of public and private investments. They receive allocations from the City of Bartow and the Bartow Community Redevelopment Agency, as well as have corporate and individual sponsors who believe in the mission.
Main Street hosts monthly events including Friday Fest on the third Friday of each month and Antique Market on the second Saturday of each month. It’s annual festival and event lineup is always evolving and includes staples like: Bloomin’ Arts, Bloomin’ Bike Ride, Spring Fling Craft Fair & BBQ, Uncorked, Tour de Tow, Fall Festival, Halloween Parade, Chalk Walk, Honey Bee Festival, Mistletoe Market and the Christmas Parade.
For Davis, the future of Main Street Bartow will be shaped by collaboration.
“The future of Main Street Bartow is bright, and that future belongs to all of us,” she says. “By working together, we can strengthen the legacy of Downtown Bartow and ensure it remains a vibrant and welcoming place for generations to enjoy.”
