Get a Break on Your Property Taxes by Paying Them Sooner
Property owners in Polk County can reduce their annual tax bill by paying early, according to the Polk County Property Appraiser’s Office. Taxes paid in November receive a 4% discount, while payments made in December earn 3%. The discount drops to 2% in January and 1% in February. All prior-year real estate and tangible personal property taxes are due in full by March 31, with no discount available after that date. Payments not made or postmarked by March 31 become delinquent.
March also brings key deadlines: March 1 is the last day to file new homestead exemption applications, and the final installment is due for those on the Property Tax Installment Payment Plan. By April 1, any unpaid taxes become delinquent, and tangible personal property tax returns for the current year are due. Applications for the next installment plan must be filed by April 30.
